I had a lot fun in the Navy, the best of which was on the Greene. saw the world, lots of place I would mot been able to see. A lot of great people i served with, unforgettable..
I was an ET on board from 10/64 till 12/66. Served with Chief Barrett, Glen Flanagan, Cole, Kemp, Smith, Ambrosiak, Kostoroski, Trudeau and others. June-Dec 1966 was the around the world Vietnam cruise.
I was on the Greene from 1963 to 1965. I was an EM3. Everrett Schaefer was my 1st Class.other electrical crew Johnny Gore, Rezendez fro Oakland, Neil, Sam from Chicago and others that I can’t recall. Need to hear from some of you guys.I also spent several months on Shore Patrol in Norfolk for several months before leaving the ship June 4th 1965
My Dad was on the USS Eugene A. Greene in the early 1960’s. His name was Doyal Wright from Georgia. Anyone know him or have any stories? He passed away in July , 1972 at age 28 from melanoma cancer. Thanks and Thank you all for your service.
Of course I forgot to put Dad’s name—George French from Joliet, Illinois.
Thanks, Sharon
Hi. My dad was on the Greene from 1954-1956. He worked on the evaps and made MM3. I followed in dad’s footsteps and joined the navy. He passed away in November. We had been estranged for many years after he married the second time after mom passed. I am hoping that someone here knew him and would be willing to scan me some pictures that might have my dad or even mom in them. I would love to hear any sea stories you might have that I could include with my family tree that I am working on.
Hello John Fair – I was an MR 67-71
Never did know Duck’s real first name
Looking for my biological dad who may have served late 1940s to late 1950s. Last name may have been Johnson and he may
Have been a steward or mess cook. I am of mixed race so I do not know what his race was. I think most stewards and mess cooks were of the black race.
Thanks,

Served on the Green from 62 through 64, lots of good times with a good friend Billie Butler from Wyoming.
1958-1962 Sonar
I served on the Eugene A Greene from spring 1970 its Decommissioning 1973. I was in the Damage Control department.
Served 1954 to 1956, in the “A” gang working for Bradshaw and it was the beginning of a 20 year career. I really learned a lot from Bradshaw and he pushed me along for a year and a half. After submarine school I went to Pearl Harbor to board the USS Carp SS 338 and began a career in the submarine service. After retirement, I came to Alaska to begin a flying career and drifted into a couple businesses that turned out to be very successful and now just kine of take up space. I published a book called SUBMARINES, AIRPLANES , AND A GOOD LIFE IN ALASKA.. I look forward to hearing from old (and young) shipmates.
