I was stationed on the USS Lockwood 1064 from 1982 to about 1984, I did a split tour, when it was available and I when to the USS Pyro AE 24. I left the Lockwood as a third class bosnmate, and I came on board as an ordinary seaman. The Lockwood for me was my first ship, I really like how she looks, I got to play on my shares of unrep, helo ops, gun shoot, missile shoot of the sea sparrows, and Asroc. I was fortunate to sit on the mark 54 gun mount elevated the turret and train it, I also had the privilege of sitting down on the sonar console and I was listening while the sonar was on passive mode. I also got to sit on the console of the slick 32, and was tracking airplanes and helicopters from the sea Sparrow manually fire control radar on top of the deck D deck, also at that time they were doing advanced firefighting damage control and I managed to get my red cap being new to that ship and having the privilege of seeing and doing what I did show me a lot of old crew members jealous but I enjoyed it every bit of it they’re small to this but I’ll even like this. It was one of the best shit I’ve been on and I sure did hate it with me broke it up and she was decommissioned they have photos out there of her being scrapped sad very sad. Thank you crew members

Years Served: 1983 to 1986…I guess I am the first one to sign this! I had the best of times on the ’Wood and living in Yokosuka. I met a wife while there even though she is old news….

Years Served: 1985-1986…The Captain made the decision to turn and put us right in front of the freighter. He was always too gun ho. I Heard everything on the signal bridge. I was in direct communication

Years Served: 84-87…IN REGARDS TO (OS) WORNES REMARKS… HE IS FULL OF SOMETHING. I WAS THE 1JV PHONE TALKER TO THE CAPTAIN FOR SEA AND ANCHOR THAT COLD RAINY, LIMITED VISIBILITY, SEA RETURN ON ALL RADARS SPS- 50 AND 10 NIGHT. LT. DOUGLAS MEISTER HAD THE CON ALL THE WAY UP TO INCREASING SPEED TO 20 KNOTS, SOUNDING THE WHISTLE FOR THE PORT TURN, AND EXECUTING THE TURN INTO A UNLIT VESSEL THAT HAD JUST GOTTEN UNDERWAY DOWN BOUND IN THE SAFETY FAIRWAY. THE CAPTAIN DID NOT HAVE THE CON UNTIL IT WAS EVIDENT THAT A VESSEL WAS APPROACHING OFF THE STARBOARD SIDE. HE TOOK THE CON FROM WEPS AND DID HIS DUTY AS THE CAPTAIN AND SAVED YOUR SORRY ASS FROM WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MIDSHIP HIT TO THE BOILERS AND BLOWN US ALL UP. IF THERE IS A HIGHER POWER, I SUGGEST YOU PRAY TO HIM OR HER TO FORGIVE YOU FOR SUCH A LIE. OR START IT OUT BY SAYING THIS IS NO SHIT SO, WE KNOW IT TO BE CLASSIC NAVAL FICTION.
