Only spent 1 mo on the English right after she ret frm the Med in 63. Being my first ship, she will always have a special place in my heart.

Years Served: 1959-1963…DK2. On board for one Med cruise and during the Cuban missle crisis.
Years Served: Jan. 11, 1959-July 20, 1962…Did one med cruse and was in the Cuban missile crisis 1960—-1962
Years Served: 1960 to 1963…Home port, Norfolk, VA. Made two Med cruises and served during the Missiles of October conflict. Retired English to the reserve fleet in l963.
Years Served: 1954-1955…I was aboard when the English rammed the Lynn and we lost our bow. LANTFLEX 55. It was on Huntley Brinkley that night and that’s how my wife found out. We backed hundreds of miles into Norfolk. Believe it or not the Navy had a spare Sumner Class bow waiting for us. I was staff Operations Officer for DESDIV22. The English was the flagship. The Commodore was Clifford Foster. He gave my wife away at the alter at the Norfolk Naval Chapel as her father could not attend the wedding.

Years Served: 1960-63…Served thru Cuban crisis and one med cruise. Stayed in Nav for 21 years. Retired RMC. Anyone heard from cook Bobby Lee Dunn or Smokey Stover ?
Years Served: 1954-1957…Was on board during hurricane Carol and the collision with the Lynn in the fall of 1954.Made all the cruises and exercises until Sept. 1957. Left active duty on Sept. 9, 1957. Did some active reserve time in Huntsville, Alabama and was discharged in 1961.P

Years Served: 1944-1946…Being a Plank Member, I was one of the first crew members to put the USS English DD- 696 into commission in Brooklyn, N. Y. Also, we were the first to enter Tokyo Bay at the end of the war with Japan.
Years Served: 6 Months Aboard DD-696 June 1962 to December 1962…I was only on board for a short period of time but it included the Cuban Missle Crisis. Plane guard duty primarily for the USS Independence.
