Years Served: 16 months…Overall recollection of my Fanning experience was that that in rough seas we got our butt kicked. Walked on bulkheads once during WestPac in Indian Ocean while on Rover Watch. Found bulkhead sweating in lower forward gunmount compartment. Showed the CO and we were promptly sent to Diego Garcia for repairs. Then our Sonar Dome ruptured and we were sent to Muscat, Oman where we sat pier side for 2 weeks while a patch job was done and we suffered through 120 degree heat during Ramadan. Patch job didn’t work and CO soon opened her up and we headed back to the Philipines where I checked out and returned to states to get discharged from the Navy.
I remember that cruise it was my last one as well
