I spent 2 weeks ACDUTRA as a 20-year-old SA in July 1960. The ship was moored alongside one of the piers at NAVSTA San Diego, and did not go to sea as she was not in commission at the time. She was assigned to the 11th Naval District as a Reserve Training vessel. The CO was CDR R R Ormiston, and the OIC was LT M E Seiler. I was assigned as a Yeoman striker in the ship’s office.
