My Father , Robert Edward Overton Jr, Served on this ship during Vietnam. Anyone here know him? He passed in 2009 but talked fondly of the Luce and used to show me pictures when I was a kid .

Years Served: 1972 to 1976…This was my last ship and I loved her. She was thew most beautiful ship of the 7 that I server on.

It was not named after that ship. Their may be some connection but the DDG-38 was named After Admrial Steven B Luce not a ship. You can wiki USS Luce and see.
Could someone please explain to me if thie USS LUCE DDG 38 was named after the USS Luce that went down in Naha Bay Okinawa during WW2? THank you.
