Years Served: 1980-1982…Hello, shipmates. I reported to the Jolly J-I, after serving for 2 years at the NATO Base Keflavik. I worked in the supply dept, under the Disbursing Officer, Mr. Marsh. My fiance/wife worked at the Mayport Dispensary. The J-I had just completed an extensive re-fit, so the customary shake-down cruises & a Med/ I.O. cruise followed my reporting-aboard. During that cruise, we had a shell-back hazing ceremony, and then, the paper-work got LOST! I continued to complete a career of 21 1/2 years. The Jolly J-I was my second ship. At career’s end, I served aboard 6 ships, with 2 shore tours at the Sub Base Groton Commissary. My last two ships were home-ported in Newport, RI & my wife & I live in the Woodberry family house on Boston’s North Shore, with my parents both still living, just downstairs from us. We both wish all J-I shipmates fair winds & following seas NMW & EAB

Years Served: Philly Shipyard Re-fit 1970-1973… Hello to all my plank-Owner shipmates from the Philly rebuild. I was an RM3 when I left. Two med cruises and and a zillion and one Caribbean cruises not to mention the N. Atlantic. Great experiences; I think of them almost daily. I still stay in touch with RM3 David Kean and Sr. Master Chief Eddie Goldsmith (Lifer/great friend/great public servant). If you were a shipmate during that time please feel free to drop me an e-mail;. I’m a retired State of Texas Police Officer, 30 years service. I live in Borne, Texas, just west of San Antonio off IH-10. I’m proud to say I was a J.I. Sailor and hats-off and many thanks to all who have served, and those serving now in all U.S. Military. Years Served: 62-63…MEMORY——remember the great north Atlantic storm we were in—-100 foot waves—— port hole glass blown out on the bridge—— most of equipment on exposed decks swept away—- forward gun mount damaged. we had a good ship. I hear that when she was used for target practice, she did not go down without a fight JEFF

My late husband James M Holt (Navy Diver) supervised a team of Navy Divers to replace the Port Propeller underwater on the USS Jonas Ingram in Bahrain, saving the Navy mega bucks by not dry docking . He got an accommodation for this . I believe this took place in 1973,,,,wondering if anyone remembers this ?

Ron Brown

Served on the Ingram 75-77. I was a corpsman with Chief Mabry. Ingram was in dry dock in Charleston when I arrived. Got to do the re-qualify in Gitmo. Had a wonderful North Atlantic cruise, refueling at sea with below freezing temps, followed by passing out 1oz. shots of whisky to the crew. Enjoyed my time there, and the friends I made. I still hope to this day that Imlay forgave me from giving him Dulcolax rather than Dramamine, either way, it made him forget about being sea sick, or at least as I recall.

Mike Boos

I remember the North Atlantic cruise in 1961. I was on watch on the bridge when the port hole glass blew out. It shattered on the side of my head. I still have the scars to show for it. What an experience. The Lord was watching over us on that cruise.

I’m looking for someone who new my brother when he was on the USS Jonas Ingram in 1981. His name is William Christipher Smith. He passed on the ship while docked in Mayport Fla..
Please email me if you knew him.
Thanks

T Smith

served on the Ingram 1961-1963 SOG-3, great crew as i remember. got “sunk” by torpedo during drill as we all looked at the scope and could not figure out what was being shown—-blame that on lousy training
i noticed Madison looking for old crew, forgot my name huh ??
Donifrio jumped ship in Italy, you probably will not find him
