Years Served: …My father was rescued from a boat that left Cuba back in 1961. He was the capitan of that boat. He states that he was rescued by a Destroyer named the USS Power. I did some reasearch and I read that the Power was being serviced sometime in the early sixties. My question is was this Destroyer, one of the Destroyers that patrolled the area and were they rescuing the Cubans that were leaving the Country. My father has a picture in his possesion right after the rescue. Behind the photograph it states that the Destoyer’s name was Powell but the number assigned to it was 871 which I believe belongs to another Destroyer. Does anyone have any information in reference to the above?
