Just discovered this website, served on board from 1957 thru 1960 in the supply dept. went on board as a seaman and left as a E5 joined the Navy at 16 and served for 4 years and 10 months. Got a letter of recommendation from A.O. Mccarroll in recognition hat the ships supply dept. received the grade of Excellent. Turning 82 and have had hell of a ride. MY navy time was a great time in my life, made good friends plus it prepared me for life. Thanks to all who served and are serving , may God bless them. email me. Have tr;ied to trace some of the people in supply but to no avail. GO NAVY
I served aboard the USS Kyes from 1968 through 1970. I have so many wonderful memories of my time aboard the Jumping Jimmy. I also have some moments that will haunt me forever. I was aboard the ship when the USS Frank E. Evan’s was cut in half. That dawn morning has be with me ever since. I would love to hear from any Weapons Division shipmates. I am also trying to find Mike Stabler who was an IC man. I know several of my shipmates are gone now but I sure would like to hear from any that are still with us.
BTFN made the last westpac on Kyes. Was there to decommission her in 1973. Had my fun in no.1 boiler room
My father, Roy Gene Posey from Bossier City, Louisiana proudly served aboard the USS James Kyes. I have his picture of the ship framed along with his “SAILOR SUIT” portrait. I look at it everyday and am so proud of him and his shipmates. Thank you all for not only your service, but for your commitments to one another and your unselfish giving of yourselves for our, for my freedom.
Was in Kyes 66-68, west-PAC twice. QM3 when I separated
My father Bobbie d Benfield was on this ship. He was at bikini atoll and we were wondering if anyone remembered him and could give us some information. He was in the navy from June of 56 to about April 29 of 1957. This ship was his last commission before he was placed on disabled 100% serve connected. My father just died July 12 of this year from cancer If anyone remember him please email me at Donna. Hernandez @everest.edu. Thank you
Has anyone heard from SK2 Lenny Witt or knows any information on him? He was on the Kyes from 1969 through 1970.
I would also like information on SK2 Larry Evans. He lived in Anaheim California.
We all worked for SK Chief Lareoza through 1971.
Thanks in advance for your help.
