Years Served: 1961-1962…My first ship fresh out of Class A school. Eventually transferred to the west coast and picked up the USS Hancock CVA-19. Did three tours to Nam and missed having my enlistment extended by 2 weeks. Very intense life lessons, but wouldn’t trade them for anything.

I arrived on the Massey around March of 1969. She was completed in Newport , Rhode Island. It was really cold and we dealt with a lot of ice a s snow. Seems like we were in port for a short time and we were off for a 6 month Med. Cruise. I would make two more Med cruise one on the Massey and another in the USS Shenendoah. I was discharged in Dec. 1970, being a reservest. This was a time of my life where I met many shipmates, who became lifelong friends. My only regret is that I did not stay in to see the other 1/2 of the world. SK 3 Stephhen l Strout
