1966-1970 Left Putnam as STG2. Came to Putnam in Portsmouth Shipyard. Enjoyed Monte Carlo, Rio, Jamaica, the Mediterranean, Cuba, San Juan, Virgin Islands. Good shipmates.
Served on the Putnam fm 1965 to 1967 as Radioman 3rd class live in coaltownship PA 17866
Reported aboard as FTGSN in 1963 and transferred in 1966 as FTG2 while in the yards in Portsmouth. Retired in 1987 as NCCM. Was leading FT when I transferred. LCDR Joe Buggy was my XO and was responsible in my enlistment.
I am trying to find my stepfather’s shipmates. He was on the Putnam feom 1966-1968. His name is Raymond Haughey and he worked in fireroom 1. Please feel free to email me at lilyannasmommaATtvnDOTnet. Thank you.
God Bless any of us still around. 1966 thru 1969. So happy to read notes from guys I knew, others before and after who shared a life none of us will likely forget.
Anyone know dates in Portsmouth shipyard?
Ok to email me. Tom

Was sent to Putnam 1n 64 when it was at GTMO after over hall at New York yard It was a junk job n her 5 inch guns got hell for the work done there I was not on board then a NO GOOD LT MADDEN came on board and I was remover from the gunnery department and made the ships chef MAA due to the piss poor work done at this yards which I was not on board at that time. I hope that this Lt Madden got his ass kicked the no good sob because of him I tried. Does any one know what happen to him ???

I served aboard the Putnam 1944-46 left ship at Japan Oct. 1945
Served on Putnam from 1966-1968 with Godden and Epler among many others in this he sonar shack.
Out of the brig as seaman (recruit?) & into the deck gang aboard a tin can being Framed in the Brooklyn Naval Ship Yard. Thank God for the Chief Boatswain, 1st Class BM Coshaw, the two Irish 2nd Class BM’s, MacCarthy & ?, plus a black BM3. Those guys changed me for the better. By the time I got out in 65 I was a BM3, had passed the BM2 exam & was “incharge?” of the forward deck, refueling, highlinng, anchor detail & routine maintenance & operations. I also had a tendency to get into trouble on occasion with a certain LT JG. I may very well have been fortunate to get out with an honorable.I am a bit more mature now, if somewhat older.
USS Putnam 1965-1968
STG2. Went into and retired from Naval Reserves.
Don’t know about the reunion. Someone let me know please.
Served from 1968-1971. First on the Deck Force with the likes of LaCross, Bell, LaRue all a bunch of jerks. Later went to Radar A School, rejoined ship in the Med. Served in OI division with the likes of Bernartis, Aubrey Wilson, Ron Klusik, Ted Eaton, and my brother to name a few. Enjoyed my time on the Putnam.
How do I sign in on the USS Putnam DD757 guestbook?
This ship was nothing but JUNK when it came out of fram 11 It had to go into the Norfolk Navy yard the five inch guns was screwed up by the New York yard I went on board when it came back from GTMO and found every gun was not worked on right I am the one who had this junk ship put in the Norfolk Navy Yard before it went to the med. A Lt Madden came on board and took the gunners mates away from me he was a sob made he made me the ships MAA When it got back to Norfolk I retired The Capt called me to his state room and told he knew why I left the navy but he had to keep his officers in good not the crew I am the sob who saved the life of the operrater of squ 10 if you can remember W H MADDEN GMG1
I served on the Putnam from Sep 1960 to Aug 1963. I worked on the deck force for a short time, and later worked in the ship’s office. I was a Yeoman 3rd class. I enjoyed the Putnam very much, and would like to hear from anyone who remembers me.
I served as SN on the USS Putnam from late 1960 until it was in for Fram in brooklyn in June 1962.
