Years Served: …My Uncle who was my Father’s brother served on the DeHaven and was killed after an attack in the south Pacific where it sank. His name was Cato Hans Swalling. Thank you for this site!
Years Served: Son Of Ferman D. Fiandt served wwII…My Father served on her during WWII. Fireman. I would listen to him talk of the days on the ship, the encounters with the enemy , and the guys on board her. He has sinced past, and my Mother signed on in his place for the crew members list. She has had a stroke and is unable to particapate any longer. I, as first son of my Father, would like to continue on in his memory, as a subsitue member of the crew
Years Served: 1972…The Dehaven was the last Destoryer I served on before I got out. She a great ship with a long career. Although, I only spent a short time aboard, I have some great memories.
Years Served: 26…I served on the Dehaven as a reservist in the seventy’s and was on board when the Dehaven fired the last full salvo of her five inch guns. I believe it was the last full salvo ever fired by a WW11 Destroyer.
Years Served: ‘68-’73(5 years 8 months and 22 days)…Just passing thru. Hoping it’s not spam. Got off her when we sold her to the S. Koreans at decom. Great ship, lots of memories. Made it to BM2 on board, retired as BMCS in ’93
Years Served: 1961-1962…The Dehaven was stationed at Yucuska Japan during my tour

Years Served: 61-64…Left the ship in Long Beach prior to my transfer to the reserves. Currently retired living in Folsom Ca. Spending as much time as I can seeing the country on my Harley.
Years Served: 1970-1971…Served on gun line at Gulf of Tonkin 1970. Had a brother on board also Joe Troy Story.
Years Served: 3, 1966 – 1969…Served under Walters BM2 while aboard. Still keep in touch with Bruce Darling and have done much searching for Jim Bryant. Last known to live in Denison Texas. If anyone has any info please let me know. Lots of memories, most good.
Years Served: N0v1952 – 1954…Served from Nov 1950 July 1954 . Came aboard as Hospitslmsn Made first before leaving ij July 1954 for discharge; Haver many great memories of time aboard. Still Keep in touch with several shipmates and make most of the anual reunions. Will be goint to Branson, Mo next week for this years reunion.

Years Served: father served 1945 uss dehaven 469…I am the daughter of Elmer Berends decesed june 5 2006 My dads ship was sunk in the guada canal. Many ship mates died and he cryed for a lot of years when he spoke of the attack. When you held your reunion in portland main many years ago I brought my dad there for a fathersday gift. Came aboard October 1958 as FA. Left as BT2 for BT “B” school in September 1961. Retired BTC Dec 1979. Retired Boiler Inspector 2006.
Bruce served on the DeHaven from 68-72. Big guy with red hair, had nicknames Big Red or Big Nell. Fire Control Tech. We married a year after he went into the Navy and just celebrated our 50th this past Sept. 2019.
I served from 1964 to to 1965 I was a cook!
