Years Served: 1967 to De-Commission…Quartermaster 2nd Class in Operations Division, drew up the Snoopy Dog on a Surfboard Flag…. Happiness is a Shipload of Reserves…
Years Served: 1950 TO 1954…SERVED IN KOREAN CONFLICT
Went into the U.S.A.F. December 18, 1980 , Honorable Discharge!
My grandfather passed away in 1990 but he was a part of the original Soley crew and served until November of 1945. He was a Fireman 1c. Being 32 years old when he was drafted, he was older than most other sailors. I understand he had a nickname like “pops” as a result.
If anyone knew him, please give me a holler.

Paul Tartanella remember name can’t place face. Was Shsn until I made 3rd class and was transferred. Went back to the fleet. Made Sh2 before discharge in 1967.
I remember Curry and
Cloud.
I was on the Soley in 61and 62 EM3
I remember both of them. I was on the Soley in 61and 62 EM3
Served on the Soley from 63 to 66 as shsn until late 66 then made sh3 and was transferred
My father passed in 1991. He served 1951-1955 Korean Conflict, Gunnersmate 3rd class. We enjoyed looking at the 2 World Tour books with him as kids and the ritual of crossing the equator. My mother still has an official ship portrait which is next to his flag. We remember all who served and those who have fallen.
Without his shipmates, I would not be here. Thank you all.

Looking for info on Michael Kline who served aboard the Soley from 7/31/62 (transferred from DD-654 Baress) through the Cuban Blockade. He passed away a few years ago, and I’d like to find something for his son. Something that would show he was aboard (possible log entries?); info that could be included with a Soley plaques. Mike was Navy to the end. I noticed a couple postings by people from the same time period; maybe they knew him.
I served aboard the soley from 1953 to 1956 in forward fire room BT3
Anyone remember Cheif Curry or Jim Cloud? I was on the Soley 61 to 63.
