To Jim Singleton: Remember you well “WA5BDR” out of Brownsville. Hope you are well and life has treated you well. Also remember Chief Padilla. Very good man.
To Mike Millage: Very sorry to hear about Jerry, but I hope you are well, and I remember both of you well. Has anyone heard from Craig Reynolds QM2 ?

Years Served: 1955…I served on Hopewell during 1955 and was assigned to after engine room, also know as secret snack bar after new food supplies were brought on board. After engine room hatch was in just the right location. I will never forget the Goodwill Cruise to the Far East, still have my cruise book. Petty Officers E.T.Jones and Shaneyfelt, to great guys to have in charge of us. Buying black market jewelry in Hong Kong. Girlfriends wanting to marry us in Subic Bay Phillipines. Huge ships party in Yokuska Japan. Riding rickshaws in Singapore. I enjoyed all of my Navy time except the few days in Norfolk, Va. Sydney Nova Scotia was wonderful on another cruise, another ship. I would enjoy hearing from old friends or anyone else from Hopewell.

William (Bill) Sparks

Years Served: 1959—1961…I live in Southern California about 60 miles North of San Diego in Temecula, CA. I have contact with a few old shipmates and have had one contact with our Skipper, Commander George Silvanni.

Trell J. Mercer FT2

Years Served: 1959-1962…I was a quartermaster from 1959-1962. loved the ship hated the port and starboard watches. I remember we were going to the rose festival in Portland Oregon ( my home town) which is a wild time for the navy. and we were out on a power run just before leaving and warped a shaft , canceling us out in Portland. also as the ship was leaving for japan, I was on a kiddy cruise and was to be discharged at 0800 the next morning. at 2200 the night before they broke us out and told us we had been extended one year. the next day I was on a ship going thru the panama canal to cuba ( Cuban missile crisis). they got me by eight hours. finally got discharged 3 months later at Norfolk.

Years Served: 1968-1969…Would like to hear from those RD’s and ET’s who served from 1968-1969. I am in touch with Tim Sullivan who served then. I am a retired Clinical Laboratory Scientist having spent 15 years employed at the VA Hospital in San Diego and 15 years at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. I live in San Diego, my home town, and turned 60 in 2007. Thank you.

Charles Ham

Years Served: 61 – 63…I was in the Navy from 1959 to 1963 and to be quite honest I enjoyed every minute of it. I was on the Hopewell from 61 – 63 and have some very fond memories. I loved being at sea! I made some friends that I am still in touch with on e-mail. I was an ET3 and still work with electronics at times. I would love e-mails from anyone that can remember me or not.
