Years Served: 1964 to decommission…Feb 4 1964 was my first duty day ship board, Reported for duty at Brooklyn as FNIC, wound up inside boiler number 2 scraping tubes for the first two days. Then I remember a my new boss calling me out and told me to get cleaned up and report to the IC room we had a gyro to fix and get ready to set sail for Newport, Rhode Island. Those were the best words I ever heard! Sure wish I could remember his name.

Years Served: 1958-1959…I am very proud to have been a Tin Can Sailor. I worked for YNC Joe Swatski and we had the toughest Exec in the Navy – LCDR Baxter.

I served aboard the Hood from Spring of 1961 until July of 1964. My duty station was engineroom #2. Life on the Hood was pretty good for me because my boss was Robert Brunsback, MM1who graduated a year before me from the same High school !!
