Hello, does anyone know the name of the ship’s surgeon whose letter to his sister about his experience at Tarawa was published anonymously in Time Magazine April 24, 1944 ? Thanks.

Years Served: 1963-1965…was the messenger of the watch the night a chief was murdered onboard by his wife in ther chief quarters
Years Served: 1957-1958…The 1957 Persian Gulf cruise then to the Med through the Suez Canal was a great experience. Really enjoyed it. Great crew.

I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. I knew there was a Chief murdered on board the Murray and this was the first time I’ve heard it mentioned in over 50 years. At least I know I’m not hallucinating and it did happen . I was on board 61- 64 forward fireroom.
Served aboard 62-64 partook in Cuban missle crises ,med cruise 64. Good duty
