My brother Robert Groves DP2 USNR served aboard USS Oriskany from August 1967 until late 1968. He was on board for at least 2 deployments to Vietnam. After discharge he spent many years in the Insurance Industry as a Data Systems Engineer. He passed away at age 66. I know he was proud of his service to his country.

Years Served: 1953-1954?…My father, Ed Nalley, reported aboard in Japan, Feb. 1953. He served aboard until the decommissioning for the angled deck upgrade, when he transfered to the Lofberg, another tincan sailor. He is proud of his time aboard the O, but is also proud of his Tincan time. He was a radar tech. Thank you fellows for your service.

Years Served: 1961…Was assigned to the O right out of boot. Spent six months on her before going to Treasure island for RD school. Spent rest of hitch in tin can navy. O was a great ship. Wish they would have made her a tour attraction instead of an artificial reef.
