I came aboard her, the summer of ’75. Started on the mess decks, went to 1st division and became a Journalist. Made 2 Med cruises. Out at sea, I was the sports reporter on our nightly news program. Went thru the Panama Canal and ran alongside Larry Roy for 10 of the 50 miles that he ran. Ended up at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. and finished my enlistment there, December of ’78. Would love to hear from our shipmates!

My dad was on the Standley in ’74-75. She was his first ship and the only one he talked about over and over and over. He was so proud of the fact that they chased that Russian sub until it had to give up and surface. Even got pics of that boat. Got a LOT of pics from his cruises actually. Gibraltar, Puerto Rico, etc. She always held a special place in his heart and in mine also.
