PRITCH WAS THE BEST CHEIF I EVER WORKED FOR , NOT ONLY DID HE TEACH US HOW TO BECOME QM’S , HE TAUGHT US BY EXAMPLE HOW TO BE MEN OF HONOR … MANY OF THE THINGS HE TAUGHT ME FOLLOWED ME ALL THRU MY LIFE AND HELP ME IN MANY WAYS …… SHOULD ANYONE KNOW ANY OF THE CHIEFS SURVIVORS OR ANYONE WHO WAS CLOSE TO HIM WOULD YOU PLEASE FORWARD MY EMAIL ADDRESS TO THEM , I WOULD LIKE TO SEND MY SYMPATHY . Years Served: 1958 to1960…Was on Salem CA 139 in Flag until Des Moines came to Med, moved to Des Moines and served in Flag and then ships company H Div. for 6 mos. then went to Corps School in July 1960. I remember the fire in the uptake space as I called in the alarm and fought the fire for over an hour.
Years Served: Feb 1952 to Feb 1954…Failed to bring the Daisy Mae to Milwaukee, not by lack of effort, but lack of local government support. Sorry to see her scrapped. Will always be proud to have served aboard and cherish the memories .
Years Served: 4…Had some good times aboard that gunship! The USS Des Moines was a fine ship and the crew wasn’t too bad either!
Years Served: 1957-1960 B Divison…she was a beatuful ship there was a lot of hard work done to keep her that way .had some real good times and made alot of good long lasting friend.I attend the reunion each year,and have united with some of my old mates.

Years Served: January 1958 to March 1961…The time on board and the friends that i made are priceless. I will miss the Des Moines more now that she is gone, but the memories will live on forever.

Served from June 1959 to day we arrived in Norfolk 1961,. I was shipservice . My longest job was one of barbers . Had privilege of cutting officers hair Admiral Anderson and many young sailors and Marines . I loved my time on board . Remember big Tom and many other shipmates .
